Three ways to create an overlay. Pick the one that matches your moment.

Method 1: From the menu bar
The most discoverable option. Good when you're not sure where you want the BlurBox yet — drop one in, then drag it where it needs to go.

- Click the BlurBox icon in the menu barThe frosted-square icon at the top of your screen.
- Choose “New BlurBox”A new overlay appears in the lower-left of your screen.
- Drag it where you need itClick and drag anywhere on the overlay to reposition it. Drag near an edge to resize.
Method 2: Keyboard shortcut
The fastest option once you've memorized it. Works from any app — you don't need to bring BlurBox to the front first.

- Press ⌃ ⌥ ⌘ BFrom any app, anywhere. A BlurBox appears at the default position.
- Drag and resize as needed
Method 3: Drag-to-create
The most precise option. Use this when you know exactly where and how big you want the overlay. Inspired by macOS's ⌘ ⇧ 4 screenshot selector.

- Press ⌃ ⌥ ⌘ VYour screen dims slightly and the cursor turns into a crosshair.
- Click and dragA blue selection rectangle appears with a live size readout (e.g. “320 × 200”). Drag from one corner to the opposite corner.
- Release the mouseA new BlurBox appears at exactly the size and position you drew.
Cancel a drag-to-createPress Escwhile the screen is dimmed to cancel without creating anything. A click that doesn't move at least 12 pixels is also treated as a cancel.
What's next?
- Glue your BlurBox to a window so it follows the window automatically.
- Switch between blur styles (Frosted Glass or Lava Lamp).
